What is Invisalign Treatment?
Everybody wants perfect teeth to display their smile confidently, but the thought of metal (or clear) braces can sometimes deter people from pursuing a smile transformation. Invisalign is the perfect alternative for braces. Invisalign treatment can perfectly align teeth without the hassle of wires and metals.
Invisalign is a custom-made series of clear aligners that provide steady and gentle pressure to move the teeth into their correct alignment over time. The aligners can be taken in and out, so they are easy to live with and increase the ability for patients to keep their teeth clean. And the best part is that they are practically invisible. Why Invisalign Treatment?
Traditional braces aren’t a great fit for patients looking for the most esthetic option to align their teeth. If that’s the case, Invisalign treatment at Mellion Orthodontics is the perfect solution for your orthodontic care! The clear aligners are custom-made removable trays that sequential align your teeth for a fantastic smile. Clear aligners can correct common oral problems such as crowding, overbite, underbite, teeth gaps, and more. It can be the correct treatment for a variety of orthodontic cases, such as:
Crowded Teeth
The condition where the teeth don’t align properly in the jaw. It is easily noticed as overlapping teeth that appear to be too close together.
Crossbite
The positioning of some, or all of, the upper teeth inside the lower teeth when the jaws are closed.
Gapped teeth and uneven spacing
When there is excessive spacing between the two or more teeth. This can be caused by various reasons, the most common of which are tooth-size discrepancies and tooth loss.
Overbite
The condition where the upper front teeth excessively cover over the lower teeth. This is easily described as the lower teeth disappearing behind the upper front teeth when the jaws are closed.
Underbite
An underbite is when the lower teeth extend beyond the upper teeth when the mouth is closed.
Open Bite
An open bite is often considered the opposite of an overbite. This is when some, or all, of the upper teeth don’t overlap the lower teeth when the mouth is closed.
Is Everyone a Candidate for Invisalign Treatment?
Invisalign is undoubtedly the preferred treatment for people who want to correct their smile and align their teeth, without the noticeability of braces. However, certain orthodontic problems aren’t ideally suited for Invisalign treatment. People that would require surgery, those with a severe overbite, complex open bites, and those with severely rotated teeth aren’t the right match for this treatment. Schedule a free evaluation with the orthodontists at Mellion Orthodontics to know if you’re suitable for Invisalign treatment.
How Long Does it Take to Complete Invisalign Treatment?
Each patient at Mellion Orthodontics receives a customized treatment plan. There is no one-size-fits-all solution at this office! Two of the key factors that determine Invisalign treatment length are initial tooth alignment and jaw positioning. For some patients, especially those with more complex cases, surgical orthodontics may be necessary to achieve optimal results. Our goal is to always deliver the best possible smile result in the least amount of time. The average Invisalign treatment takes anywhere between 10 to 18 months to achieve perfectly straight teeth. And although the clear aligners can be removed for activities such as eating, the effectiveness and precise result desired requires the trays to be worn for 20+ hours each day.
Invisalign Treatment Options
We offer a wide range of Invisalign treatment options designed to address different age groups with various orthodontic needs and focus on comfortable realignment. The treatment involves a series of custom-made, clear aligners that gradually shift teeth into the desired position. Let’s get an in-depth view of Invisalign treatment for adults and teens.
Invisalign Treatment for Adults
Invisalign offers discreet and effective solutions for adults seeking orthodontics treatment to enhance self-esteem and confidence in their smile. The process might be longer for adults due to the complexity of moving mature teeth, but Invisalign provides comparable results to traditional braces at a lower cost. While committing to Invisalign hinges on personal willingness, for those desiring straight teeth without the visibility of braces, Invisalign treatment as an adult is considered a valuable and worthwhile option.
Invisalign Treatment for Teens
In the past, Invisalign was mostly reserved for grown-ups, but as the treatment has evolved, it’s also become a practical option for younger patients. We’ve certainly seen the popularity skyrocket at our practice. Teen Invisalign Treatment is a comfortable and nearly invisible alternative to traditional braces for teenage orthodontic treatment. Crafted from smooth plastic customized to fit the mouth, Invisalign Teen aligners eliminate the irritation caused by brackets and wires, making them nearly invisible to others. There is no food restriction, oral hygiene is simplified, and appointments are shorter without the need for frequent adjustments.

Mellion Orthodontics Invisalign Treatment Procedure
Step 1: Initial Assessment
The first phase of the treatment starts with an initial consultation. Your first visit will involve a thorough evaluation of your smile. We will assess your oral health, your bite, and ultimately your tooth alignment by utilizing photos, X-rays, and a 3D scan of your teeth and bite. With all of this information, you will have a one-on-one meeting with one of our orthodontists to plan your ideal Invisalign treatment.
Step 2: Treatment Plan
When the patient agrees to proceed the 3D model of the teeth are then instantly sent to the lab to create the custom-made, clear Invisalign aligners and to map out a custom treatment plan. Over a few weeks, our orthodontists will review the computerized treatment models in order to create an effective and efficient clear aligner sequence. When the trays arrive at our office, you will receive your first aligners. We will try them to ensure proper fit and finish, and also review all of the necessary at-home care procedures with you. As a reminder, the patient must wear the aligner for 20+ hours during the treatment process for the best results and is advised to remove it only for eating or oral care.
Step 3: Periodic In-Office Visits
We will be monitoring your progress with periodic in-office visits with our orthodontists. The trays should be changed every 7-14 days–the exact schedule is dependent on the specific tooth movement outlined by your customized treatment plan. Treatment is an ongoing process of changing the trays until all of the prescribed aligners are finished. After treatment is completed, we will provide retainers and regular follow-up visits to help maintain your beautiful smile.
